This bathroom is in a newly built home addition in Toronto, above an unheated garage. Cold floors were the first problem to solve, so we installed a Mapei in-floor heating system under large-format marble-look tile. Then we fit a glass shower, an infrared sauna, a bathtub and a floating double vanity into a narrow 5 ft × 20 ft room.
The challenge. Floors above a garage stay cold through the Ontario winter, and the room is only 5 ft wide. We needed a shower, sauna, tub and double vanity without making it feel cramped.
The result. Clear glass, light tile and wall-hung fixtures keep the sight lines open, so the narrow room feels much larger than it is. It works like a private spa, and the floor is warm in winter.
